THE CLEF VERTE LABEL, AN ENVIRONMENTAL LABEL CLOSE TO OUR HEARTS
La Commanderie de Ballan, classified as a 4-star tourist residence by Atout France, is seeking to obtain the Clef Verte label to reinforce its commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism. This approach implies greater respect for resources (energy, water, waste), the territory, and people. Clef Verte is an international environmental label, and the first ecolabel for tourist accommodation in France. The label is given by an independent jury, who evaluate over a hundred criteria in the field of sustainable tourism management.
SLOW TOURISM
If the Commanderie de Ballan is the perfect place to explore the Loire Valley and discover all its treasures, it is above all a haven of peace where one can simply resource oneself.
A morning stroll in the forest, a picnic by the stream, a reading session in the shade of hundred-year-old oaks, a sunbath, a refreshing swim, a rejuvenating massage, a pleasant and delicious dinner on the terrace. The day passed in an instant, and yet you’ve enjoyed every moment of it!
At La Commanderie, you can move freely, all on your own, on foot or by bike. The town of Ballan-Miré is just a stone’s throw away of the Domain, the Loire bike paths are just a few minutes away, and our team is on hand to suggest the most beautiful walks in the area.
A stay at the Commanderie de Ballan is a unique opportunity to take some time for yourself, or a true factory of memories with family and friends.
OUR ROLE IN FIGHTING FOOD WASTE
Did you know that in France, food waste represents 10 million tonnes of products a year? It’s our duty as professionals to raise your awareness on the environment and the environmental impact of the actions we take on a daily basis, such as:
- Customers requesting breakfast will be asked about the food they do or do not consume, to refine their choices and reduce waste.
- Selective sorting is available in each of the hotel’s units and common areas.
- When preparing our seasonal menus, we give priority to fresh products.
- We encourage the reuse of basic products in the composition of our dishes.
- A composting station has been installed near our farmhouse, with instructions on how to use it.
- The animals in our farmhouse will also be happy to taste the food not eaten by our customers.
Our goal is to provide our customers with an environment that respects nature, and to actively contribute to ecological change to best preserve the resources our planet has to offer.
A SHARED COMMITMENT
We also want to involve our guests in this eco-responsible approach. For example, we encourage you to use energy-saving programs on the washing machines and clothes-washers in our accommodation, to reduce their water consumption and to turn off the lights when you leave a room. By adopting these simple gestures, you contribute to a more efficient use of water and energy resources.
We have also “optimized” our cleaning practices to reduce our carbon footprint. From now on, these services will be carried out on request, thanks to the signs posted in your room. This allows us to reduce our consumption of cleaning products and water, thus helping to preserve natural resources.
